One of the most nerve-wrecking things to go through would definitely be a job interview as your livelihood depends on it. That being said, many people would often prepare themselves to the best of their abilities to make sure that they stand a chance.
Recently, a man shared his experience after having gone for a job interview. In his post he mentioned that an acquaintance had passed an opportunity to him regarding a new job. He accepted the opportunity and went ahead with submitting his resume.
“The company got back to me and was happy to conduct an online interview with me. We set a time and during the interview, I think it went quite well. There weren’t any issues and when the supervisor asked if I had any questions, I said yes”, he added.
He then asked the supervisor if there are any compensations if and all OT is needed. The supervisor then mentioned that OTs are unnecessary as the workload given is for a longer period time.
“But what if there are urgent cases and I have no choice but to OT?” he asked.
The supervisor then mentioned that, “If OT is needed, we will take the situation into consideration and maybe offer replacement leave.”
The man then mentioned that the HR person chimed in and corrected the supervisor saying that, “OT compensation will only be provided if OT is deemed necessary by the supervisor, otherwise compensations will not be given.”
The supervisor then asked the man if he has any other questions to which he said he’d like to know about the salary structure, however, before the supervisor could answer, the HR person chimed in once again saying that, “Salary structure and career advancement opportunities can be discussed once we move forward to the next stage of the hiring procedure.”
They then decided to end the interview as it took close to an hour. Following up a week later, the man then received a text from the company saying that there were 2 reasons as to why he wasn’t hired.
- The supervisor has decided to hire someone who has prior experience to the cases they’re handling.
- They found it off putting that he only cared about OT compensations when the supervisor asked if there are any questions.
The man then thanked them for the feedback but felt that he was misjudged. He then ended his post by saying that,
“I didn’t know that asking about OT compensation could be seen as off putting especially when all questions regarding my job scope have been brought up.”
Netizens believe that it was a blessing in disguise
Many netizens mentioned that it’s good that he wasn’t hired as it speaks a lot about the company’s culture and practices.
“This would mean that they don’t want to pay for your OT compensation.”
“If this is off putting to them then it’s good that you weren’t hired,” said another.
Another commented, “If they could see this as off putting then it’s best that you didn’t get in. Do they think you work for the sake of charity?”
It’s always important to find a company that would appreciate the hard work. Have you ever experienced something like this?
