The Chinese community need not worry about a shortage of pork for the upcoming Chinese New Year (CNY) festivities.
Minister of Transport Anthony Loke Siew Fook has confirmed that there is a sufficient supply of pork in Malaysia, ensuring that the community can enjoy traditional dishes during the celebration, which falls on Tuesday (17 February).

“No roast pig, no CNY”
While addressing the sensitive issue of relocating pig farms in Selangor, Loke urged the public not to rely on unverified reports. Speaking at the annual CNY Reunion Dinner held by the Seremban Grace Revival Church last night (12 February), he directly addressed the concerns of the Malaysian Chinese community regarding supply, as reported by China Press.
Loke reassured attendees that the supply remains stable and that consumers can enjoy their favourite dishes without worry, especially during the important reunion dinner with their families.
“Roast pig is a must for CNY. It’s not CNY without roast pig,” he remarked. “There will absolutely be no shortage of pork in Malaysia; you can definitely eat pork every day.”

The reassurance comes after the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, made it clear that he does not consent to new pig farming activities being carried out in any district within the state.
Following this, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari noted that the state government had already ceased issuing new licences in January. The state’s current focus is on vacating existing farm sites in Tanjong Sepat, Kuala Langat, to streamline agricultural planning.
