“It’s been 40 YEARS?!” M’sians are Nostalgic About How Much 7-Eleven Has Changed Over the Years

Can you believe it’s been 40 years since 7-Eleven came into our lives? ? Whether it’s topping up our prepaid card at the nearest 7-Eleven outlet after school, browsing the neighbourhood bulletin board for rooms to rent, or stocking up on ice in the middle of the night (for reasons), 7-Eleven really became a community stop for every Malaysian in every area.

When you’ve been around for as long as 7-Eleven have, you know that change is inevitable – and they’ve changed SO MUCH over the years (for the better, of course)! Think you can remember all the cool ways that 7-Eleven has evolved over the years? Then let’s go through them together!

1. The year is 2021: 7-Eleven opens their first ‘café’!

7-Eleven’s Flagship Store at Bandar Puteri Puchong, Selangor

Who had the chance to visit 7-Eleven’s very first 7CAFé outlet at Menara TA One, KL THREE years ago? (It’s been that long dy, ke?) If you didn’t manage to visit their first café, fret not. They have since opened up more than 300 7CAFé outlets operating across the country! This means you can probably find a 7CAFé located near you where you can grab freshly-made coffee and hearty Ready-to-Eat Meals whenever you’re craving for them. Not to mention these cafés are like ‘safe havens’ where we can just chill out and take a breather~

And to further show how much thought and care 7-Eleven has put into easing our lives, they’ve since improved the quality and variety of 7CAFé’s famed Ready-To-Eat Meals by not only appointing newly-established QVI Foods Sdn Bhd as their new central kitchen, but also enlisting the help of the talented Chef Riza to be 7-Eleven’s Executive Chef. So no matter how busy we are, we can still fill up our tum tums with delicious AND filling Ready-To-Eat Meals, pastries, and more!

Ever noticed how the food offerings in 7-Eleven always tasted so fresh? That’s because they launched their very own chilled distribution centre in 2022, which ended up optimising delivery timelines and preserving the freshness of its products better – they even formed long-term partnerships with around 160 local producers and suppliers to ensure continuous supply of fresh raw ingredients to serve Malaysians with. So thoughtful ah!

2. Fulfilling both timeless and newest needs of Malaysians

No matter our age, we’ve always had fond memories of 7-Eleven’s signature Slurpee as the perfect remedy to our sweltering climate (alongside their abundance of around 2,500 products available at each outlet for every need). 😋

While 7-Eleven is NEVER taking that off the menu (or we’ll get our pitchforks, probably), they’ve added more premium products (SKUs) like 7-Eleven Potato Chips Hot & Spicy, 7-Eleven Caramel Popcorn and 7-Eleven Mocha Latte (240ml) with better prices and quality to better fulfil our needs, totalling up to around 200 unique products of varying categories in EACH 7-Eleven. We really can get everything we need from snacks and pet food to even toiletries at 7-Eleven!

Plus, 7CAFé by 7-Eleven recently unveiled over 30 new food products featuring local flavours to simplify Malaysians’ mealtimes, ranging from wholesome Ready-To-Eat Meals to nutritious Sandwiches and Onigiris. Whether you’re craving for Nasi Goreng Kampung, Onigiri Salmon Teriyaki or Japanese Egg Mayo Sandwich, there’s definitely something for every taste buds!

In fact, you can also redeem a 7-Eleven Tiffin Carrier (available exclusively at 7CAFé) just by shopping at 7CAFé. Simply spend a minimum of RM15 in a single receipt at 7CAFé to earn one e-stamp on your My7E app – once you’ve amassed seven e-stamps, you’re eligible to redeem this limited-edition tiffin carrier!
