Last week, an influencer received major backlash after a video of her flirting for free shawarma in KL went viral. With the title “Pretty privilege is real”, many Malaysians have criticised her for creating such controversial content.
Soon after the video went viral, the influencer, Eryn responded to the matter via her Twitter post, where she clarified that she was merely acting with the man who attended to her at the restaurant.
“I was paid to promote the shawarma. This was my second time promoting the place. The first content blew up on social media too but nobody bothered to share that,” Eryn said.
In the video, Eryn is seen walking to the shawarma restaurant with a friend. At the restaurant, Eryn “flirted” with the waiter by asking him,
“Do you know what’s my shirt made of? Girlfriend material.”
Not long after, the man approached the woman again with 2 free shawarma, which Eryn said because they were sweet to him.
“This is not marketing content”
Eryn, however, did not disclose the name of the restaurant and she has since set her Twitter account to private, but netizens are still taking the opportunity to express what they think about her explanation, and about the incident in general.
“How is this marketing when you don’t even disclose the name of the restaurant? People would like to know about the taste of the food, not how you look like. But if you still think it’s marketing, then it’s up to you.”
“An embarrassing content that degrades the dignity of fellow women. Is your value that cheap that you would do this for free shawarma?”
Another netizen pointed out that Eryn created the content with a misleading message and for that, she should’ve expected criticisms online.
“You used to say you’re like a T20 but you’re walking to the restaurant, instead of driving a Lamborghini. T2o does not take a marketing job like this. They’re rich enough that they’ll ignore a job offer like this.”
Just a few weeks back, Eyrn also said that she would prefer to date a T20 man and not anyone from the B40 group.
“I’ve built up my life up to this point, I’m not going back to living a hard life with a B40,” Eryn said.
Do you think “Pretty privilege is real” is merely marketing content?
