Henry Cavill, who graced the big screen as Superman from 2013 to 2022, happily passed his cape to David Corenswet, a 32-year-old American actor who replaced him as the Man of Steel.

David’s Superman movie, helmed by filmmaker James Gunn, who is known for his work on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, was released in theatres worldwide on July 11.
Part of Malaysian social media users, however, are now considering boycotting the latest Superman movie.
Many Malaysian netizens are pointing out that David Corenswet is of Jewish descendant, and they are calling for a boycott on the DC Superhero flick.

According to the Times of Israel, David’s father, John Corenswet, was from a Jewish family in New Orleans, USA, where David was married by a rabbi and a priest, an interfaith wedding ceremony to include the customs of his wife’s Catholic belief.
David, however, pointed out that he was raised with a Buddhist upbringing, leaning towards mindful meditation, which was revealed in a recent interview with GQ.

“I’m not watching this”
When the box office news about Superman was reported in Malaysia, many social media users were quick to identify David’s descent. With the ongoing conflict between Israel and Gaza, Malaysian netizens are calling for a boycott of the movie.

“Not many of you know that David Corenswet is Jewish, but many are still rushing to go watch this movie.”

“I’m not watching. Superman and Lois Lane (played by Rachel Brosnahan) are Jews. They are supporters of Israel.”

“I don’t like, and I’m not interested in this man.”

“Is Superman or Lois Lane Jewish? Let’s not support this. It’s not a big loss if we don’t watch it at the cinema. If they’re Jews, we’ll just watch it for free.”
Before Superman, David was known for his role as The Projector in Pearl (2022) and for headlining the series as Jack Castello in Hollywood (2020).
What do you think of this? Have you watched Superman on the big screen?
