Previously, we shared about Malaysians voicing out against some local hotel operators that implement arbitrary check-in and check-out times, including making check-in at 4pm and check-out at 11am, which many found to be outrageous.
Well, a local hotel association has since responded to the issue, clarifying that hotel and homestay operators in our country are free to set any time they think is suitable for check-in and check-out for their businesses.
Hotels and homestays are free to set any time for check-in and check-out
Taking to its official Facebook page, the Malaysia Budget & Business Hotel Association (Mybha) shared a statement by its president, Dr Sri Ganesh Michiel regarding the matter.
Ganesh asserted that there are no laws or regulations in Malaysia that prescribe hotels, or any accommodation operators, on what time check-in and check-out should be done.
Instead, it is up to the businesses’ internal regulations and policies to set what time check-in and check-out for their premises would be.
Moreover, Ganesh said that delayed check-ins could also be due to several unavoidable circumstances such as a lack of manpower.
The Mybha president elaborated,
“Even though check-in times are usually around 2pm, there are instances when hotels had to delay it to 4pm or later due to certain restrictions such as full rooms or lack of manpower.
“When a hotel is full, they need more time to clean the rooms, which causes the check-in process to be delayed.”
