Malaysia has shown no significant increase in murder cases in 2025.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution said that, based on police statistics, Malaysia recorded 248 murder cases in 2025 — a figure that does not represent a sharp increase compared to previous years. He addressed the matter in Parliament on Thursday (22 January) in a written response to a question from Datuk Azman Nasruddin.

He said the data showed 239 murder cases in 2021, 241 in 2022, 262 in 2023, and 237 in 2024.
“The data shows that murder cases have not risen sharply, as some parties had predicted. Nevertheless, the police continue to take preventive measures in accordance with existing laws to curb such crimes,” Saifuddin said.
He added that to control domestic crime, including murder, the police have implemented several programmes and initiatives aimed at strengthening crime-prevention efforts. These measures include conducting crime-prevention patrols, utilising technologies such as closed-circuit television (CCTV) and police surveillance systems, as well as appointing school liaison officers.

In late October last year, Saifuddin said two murders were reported at schools. In the same month, a murder case at SMK Bandar Utama 4 shocked the nation, involving a 16-year-old girl who was stabbed multiple times. The 14-year-old suspect was later found fit to stand trial.
Separately, another student who was scheduled to sit for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination was charged with murdering his mother and elder brother at their home in Malacca in June last year, reportedly due to academic pressure.
