Yesterday (14 October), Apple launched the iPhone 12 series, and the internet was torn between desire and outrage as the tech giant revealed a variety of advanced new features its latest model would include. You don’t have to be an Apple fan to know that acquiring one of these devices will cost you a limb. But how much will it cost you exactly?
According to Picodi.com‘s iPhone Index 2020, a statistical Malaysian who earns the average wage of RM3,532.80 will have to work for 29.1 days without eating in order to afford the iPhone 12 Pro which costs RM4,899.
These statistics are calculated by comparing the price of an iPhone 12 Pro (128GB) with the average wages in selected countries to figure out how many workdays a statistical citizen will have to work in order to buy Apple’s latest models. Apparently, Malaysia’s result improved by one day as compared to last year’s iPhone index.
Nonetheless, our country is placed on a much lower tier of the iPhone index on a global scale. Countries with higher earnings like Australia and the US can afford to buy the new iPhone in six to seven days. The highest-scoring country on the index is Switzerland, in which a statistical citizen will only have to work 4.4 days to afford an iPhone 12 Pro.
Meanwhile, India is the lowest-scoring country on the index where an average citizen has to pay 54.5 days of wages to buy a new iPhone. Malaysia was also outscored by our neighbouring country Singapore, where one would only have to work for 8.1 days to purchase the luxury phone.
Now that you know these statistics, are you still willing to buy the iPhone 12? Let us know in the comments!
