On 23 October, an Orang Asli village, Kampung Pawong in Jalan Simpang Pulai-Cameron Highlands suffered massive land cracks that resulted in several houses being declared as unsafe to live in.
As reported by Bernama and Yahoo, the Fire and Rescue Department received the distress call at 3pm and quickly rushed to the scene. They were then informed by the villagers about the massive land cracks, which measured 50 metres in length, 1.2 metres wide and 1.5 metres in depth.
Check out the deep crevice below:
“The houses were located 10 metres away from a river and three homes were badly affected. The cracks were along the river.
“Observation at site found the land where the village sits on has been previously refilled,” Perak Mineral and Geoscience Department director Datuk Ahmad said.
It was understood that the village was built in 2008 but is now unsafe for them anymore due to its close proximity to the river. The heavy rain has contributed to this incident as well.
As of now, occupants of six houses in the same row have been requested to evacuate their homes to prevent any casualty since the land has been declared unsafe. The Fire and Rescue Department is still monitoring the situation.
Based on the looks of the damaged homes, the occupants are probably not financially well-off. Hopefully, they can get some sort of monetary aid to rebuild their houses in a safer place.
