It’s no secret that there are countless Malaysians who are making quite the name for themselves in huge industries overseas.
But, have you ever come across a Malaysian who has a DAY dedicated to them in a foreign country?
Malaysian comedian and actor, Ronny Chieng, may very well be the only Malaysian to be able to say that he has his own day as O’ahu, Hawaii, announced July 27, 2024, as Ronny Chieng Day! Taking to his Facebook page, Ronny shared the proclamation of his day.
He wrote, “July 27, 2024, is officially Ronny Chieng Day in O’ahu! Mahalo (a Hawaiian term for gratitude), Hawaii and Mayor Rick Blangiardi (the mayor of the City and County of Honolulu). I hope that I will always give more than I take here.”
As explained in an official proclamation document, Ronny Chieng Day is in deep appreciation for the comedian’s excellence in multi-cultural comedy and the arts, and his unwavering commitment towards embracing beauty, depth and experience in multiracial cultures.
“In the City and County of Honolulu, multi-cultural comedy and art is highly valued by our Rainbow State resident population, home to the nation’s largest share of multiracial Americans,” the proclamation read.
The document also listed Ronny’s various movie roles, his correspondence on The Daily Show, his appearances on talk shows, and his comedy specials.
