We try to be there for our family members who are ill and stay by their side. A student of a secondary school in KL had to skip an exam in school to visit her father in the ICU but was allegedly questioned by her teacher about her absence.
In a viral TikTok post by the student’s sister, she clarified that a letter had been given to the teacher to notify her of her absence. The teacher, however, allegedly thought her ill father in the ICU was not a good excuse for her absence.
“Has he died? If not, why couldn’t you sit for the exam?”
The sister was NOT happy about the teacher’s response, and in the TikTok video that has since been removed, she said that the family was hurt by the statement from a figure that should be respected.
“I’m not trying to gain sympathy, but I really hope the teacher can apologise for her remark.”
Not long after the video was removed, the sister shared another video and explained that the teacher has since apologised for her insensitive remark.
“The teacher also said that she will visit my father in the hospital.”
In another post, the sister said despite her lingering anger towards the remark, she urged the public to stop criticising the teacher because she was shocked to see the harsh comments online.
She also assured the public that the video was taken down willingly, not through forceful means.
