Yap Shing Xuen’s wake hit the last day today (20 October), and before her funeral, the grieving family received a heartwarming visit (and gifts) from the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hannah Yeoh.
Yeoh visited the wake to pay her last respects, but she also brought something along to honour Yap Shing Xuen before the world bids farewell to the victim of the fatal stabbing in SMK Bandar Utama Damansara 4.

Hannah Yeoh placed a Team MAS Jersey on Yan Shing Xuen’s resting place to honour her with the parting gift.
Yap Shing Xuen participated actively in sports
In a social media post by Yeoh this morning, she mentioned that during the victim’s lifetime, she was a fan of volleyball and participated actively in sports. Yeoh told the grieving family that she wanted her to have the jersey with her, and the family was beyond thankful.
“Shing Xuen would have loved it,” the mother told Yeoh.

In her post, Yeoh also prayed for the family and hoped that they could navigate through this challenging time and painful loss.
“Malaysia mourns with them. In the days to come, I will do whatever I can to fight the incel culture among the young,” the Minister of Youth and Sports remarked.

Yap Shing Xuen’s demise shocked the nation, and since the first day of her wake, many figures have sent wreaths to the wake as a form of final respects, including His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, and former badminton champion Tan Boon Heong.
At the time of writing, the 14-year-old suspect in the case is still in police custody. The suspect viciously stabbed Shing Xuen repeatedly with two knives, which he purchased online.
