Previously, we shared the wholesome story of a caring Malaysian teacher and the resilience of her differently-abled (OKU) student to finish a race at a running track as depicted in a viral TikTok video.
The young boy’s story captivated the hearts and minds of many Malaysians, with many netizens believing that he may become a successful para-athlete and make our country proud in the future.
Well, among those who were impressed by the boy’s resolve include Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.
Taking to her official Facebook page, Yeoh asserted that the student, 11-year-old Muhammad Aqil has the mindset needed to become a champion, saying,
“This boy has the mindset needed, to do what it takes, to win. This is the kind of mindset talked about in the Road to Gold initiative.”
Yeoh further announced that the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) is stepping in to assist Muhammad Aqil.
For reference, the Road to Gold initiative mentioned by the KBS Minister is a programme chaired by Yeoh and Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria.
The initiative aims at providing the nation’s finest athletes with a comprehensive support service in a bid to win Malaysia’s first-ever Olympic gold.
Previously, as reported by Harian Metro, KBS via the National Sports Institute of Malaysia will be meeting a prosthetic specialist with Muhammad Aqil and his family to help the student. Yeoh also vowed to help him to enter more sporting events in the future.
Muhammad Aqil is a student at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Felda Lepar Utara 1 who had his left leg amputated in 2015 due to an infection.
