PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang is getting called out for skipping the opening of the 2026 Parliament session on Monday (19 January), which was graced by Yang di-Pertuan Agong (YDPA) Sultan Ibrahim. This comes after the politician shared a lengthy post on his social media claiming his political party is elevating Islam rather than riding on the religion’s coattails.
Abdul Hadi Awang took to his X page to assert that PAS aims to establish Islam as the ruling power in Malaysia, which in turn makes the political party a target of anti-Islamic groups.

He wrote, “PAS strives to elevate Islam, not ride it. In fact, PAS is Islamic politics that does not separate from the concept of al-din, which combines aqidah, syariah and morality by placing the position of Islam in high regard through a struggle full of sacrifices of property, soul and body.”
“The PAS constitution states that Islamic law is the highest, and it is forbidden for PAS to accept anything other than Islam. This matter is not stated by all other parties. PAS’s struggle to gain political power in order to establish Islam as the ruling power makes PAS a target for all anti-Islamic groups.”
He went on to stress that the role of Islamic parties is to lead the people after the absence of a powerful Islamic government.

“Therefore, PAS emphasises in Clause 7(1) of the PAS Constitution, which is to place Islam at the highest level and PAS fights for it through the state and the federation by placing the position of Islam as a religion that must be glorified,”
“At the federal level, PAS has several times brought private motions to amend the Ninth Schedule to the Federal Constitution, which prevents state powers from implementing Sharia law perfectly,” he added.
Malaysians want him to focus on going to Parliament
Netizens, on the other hand, took to his post to call him out for skipping the recent opening of the 2026 Parliament session and are urging him to pay attention to his attendance.

“Attend Parliament first, then talk about all of this. Be an example of a true leader first.”

“Attend Parliament more often. Let your salary be blessed.”

“You want to fight to elevate Islam, but you’ve failed at the basic responsibility of attending Parliament as an MP. That is the example of someone riding on religion! Don’t stand for elections after this lah. Wasting the people’s money. If it’s just your supporter’s money then that’s on you.”
