Fitness enthusiasts are warned to be extra careful when exercising as gyms have been identified as a “high risk” location for the Covid-19 virus to spread.
According to ABC, Dr Norman Swan, a medically qualified journalist, says gyms are the perfect place for viruses to spread because they are full of sweat, which causes surfaces at gyms to be damp.
“Dampness is a bad thing for spreading germs. You’ve got these big blokes pumping away and you never know, one of them might be a super spreader,” he said.
“It doesn’t mean you stop going to the gym, you’ve got to be super careful at the gym. You’ve got to make sure you wipe down (the equipment) before and after use.”
He also reminded people that they need to ensure that they’re using hand sanitiser while working out as well and urged them to avoid steam rooms because the room would not have a temperature hot enough to kill germs.
He added that those who have symptoms like coughing or sneezing should avoid going to the gym until they recover.
Well, if you visit the gym frequently, you might want to be extra careful and make sure to disinfect any gym equipment you use. And if you’re feeling unwell, stay home until you’ve recovered to avoid spreading your germs to others.
