A recent video that went viral shows a group of men allegedly trying to steal copper cables at Taman Bentong Makmur in Bentong, all caught on camera by a resident.
In the video, the resident can be heard calling the men out, but they ignored him and kept at it until they quickly took off moments later.
Police managed to arrest 1 of the men
Sinar Harian reported that one of the men was caught on November 4, believed to have stolen a cable from a telecommunications company’s manhole.
Temerloh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mazlan Hassan, said the 40-year-old suspect was arrested after the MPV carrying the 4 suspects crashed into a drain.
However, the other 3 suspects managed to escape after the crash.
“153 cables were seized”
Mazlan explained that members of the public called Bentong police at 4:40 AM after spotting two suspicious cars near the entrance junction of the main road, possibly involved in cable theft.
The suspect was arrested by a team from the Bentong police near the scene after their MPV crashed into a park drain.
Upon investigation, it was found that the suspect had 13 previous criminal and drug-related records.
“The police seized the car, two keys marked ‘Rex,’ 153 cut cables, 5 cable cutters, a manhole key, and a mobile phone.”
