While Najib Razak continues to serve his prison sentence, his family members continue to reminisce about him in many ways. His daughter, Yana Najib recently shared a heartfelt birthday post for her father who spent his 70th birthday behind bars.
Yana pre-ordered a birthday cake with an image of Najib with his grandkids imprinted on top of it. The young souls may not know the truth about their grandad’s whereabouts but they are definitely aware of his absence.
“How can we celebrate grandpa’s birthday if he’s not here with us?”
It can be tough to come up with a white lie to keep the children at ease, and Yana had no choice but to tell her kids to blow the cake and wait for Najib to come home from work.
“Blow the cake for grandpa, he’ll see it when he comes home from work, okay?”
In her Instagram post, Yana said she couldn’t imagine her dad celebrating his 70th birthday under this circumstances – without his grandkids and loved ones by his side. Regardless, Yana showed the public that she tries to stay strong by not losing hope, patience and strength.
“For it is your resilience that keeps inspiring us everyday. We are in this together, for as long as it takes. Happy Birthday Daddy, Grandpa, Bossku.”
“A great test is only meant for great people”
Some netizens told Yana that her father got what he deserved but in the meantime, many supporters showed their sympathy and expressed their sadness to see the situation that the family is stuck in.
“Najib is someone who has contributed a lot to the country and the people. A great test is only meant for great people.”
“Justice for Najib. The longer he is in prison, the more doomed the country will be, especially in the hands of those who put him behind bars. They’re hungry for power and fight amongst themselves.”
“It’s so heartbreaking to hear your kids asking how to celebrate their grandpa’s birthday without his presence.”
Another netizen said that she went to the memorial of Najib’s father, and looking at Najib’s picture when he was a kid made her teared up.
“I saw Najib’s picture when he was still a child, and I teared up. Surprisingly, today was his birthday.”
Happy belated birthday, Najib! We know it’s definitely not easy for the family to celebrate a happy day in such a way.
