Last week, Grab rider Muhammad Hilmi’s story went viral after netizen Heidy Imt shared how the dedicated front liner went to great lengths to deliver a customer’s meal despite having his phone snatched on the way to his destination. The post, which has now garnered 3.5k shares, received much support from netizens who praised Hilmi for his work ethic.
“When I asked him why he did what he did, he (Hilmi) shared that he was always taught to finish what he started,” shared Heidy. He said that Hilmi added, “there is nothing more I could do at the moment, so I chose to finish my job and send the food no matter how hard it is.”
Recently, Heidy had the opportunity of meeting Hilmi and his wife to celebrate and reward the committed rider’s commendable efforts. Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development Malaysia, YB Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, and Amanda Choi, the customer who made the order right before Hilmi’s phone was stolen also attended the meal where Hilmi was given:
- An Oppo F11 pro given by netizen, Gordon Yee
- Donations of an undisclosed amount
- Financial contributions from YB Mas Ermieyati Samsudin
- Vouchers from GrabFood
- Free sets of meals from Sik Thong Ba, a dessert bar
In a separate Facebook post made by the Deputy Minister, YB Mas Ermieyati, it was discovered that Hilmi only became a Grab rider when he lost his job in the tourism industry due to the pandemic. However, working in the industry allowed Hilmi to develop a mentality of finishing every task given to him in spite of the circumstances that arise.
In fact, Hilmi once missed an important life chapter due to his commitment to his job.”Once, when his wife was about to give birth to his child, he couldn’t be there because he had tasks that he needed to finish.”
“Hilmy’s story is among the stories that personally inspire me and also others. There are a thousand negative stories every day but there are also stories that are fresh and positive to see,” added the Deputy Minister in her post.
Previously, Hilmi had his phone snatched when he was trying to make a delivery to a customer’s house. The rider went to great lengths and even begged the security guards of the residential area to use their phone to call the Grab centre and ask for her address so that he could send her the food.
Kudos to Hilmi, Heidy, and everyone involved in this wholesome effort!
