Many Malaysians are starting to complete their Covid-19 vaccinations, prompting the government to relax some of the SOPs that have been set for these vaccinated individuals. These relaxed SOPs would also encourage others to register for their vaccinations.
One of the SOPs that the authorities are now looking into is the relaxation of night market operations.
In a recent press conference, Senior Minister Hishammuddin Hussein shared that the authorities are looking into allowing night markets to operate, among other activities, within Phase 1 locations such as Kuala Lumpur, for the sake of the people’s mental health.
“Even for KL and Selangor and parts of Negeri Sembilan, Phase 1, we are also looking at relaxations by the virtue of mental health, for sectors that are not risky,” he said.
He also emphasised that these relaxations in Phase 1 will require the general public’s cooperation in adhering to the SOPs.
“This mainly depends on the discipline of those in KL and Selangor. If you can reduce the numbers, if you can increase vaccinations and if you can reduce the strain on the hospitals, then I think we can move on to Phase 2 and they will have the same relaxations as Phase 2, 3 and 4.”
“But even if we are still stuck in Phase 1, on the issue of mental health, we can look into some safe activities like going to the park or looking at pasar malam that is open air. These are things we are considering, these relaxations, but I cannot announce it yet because I will have to take the feedback from health experts and whatnot,” he added.
