Ramadan is not just a month of heightened spirituality, but also heightened humour, apparently.
Malaysians often ease their Muslim friends’ fasts by not eating in front of them, followed by celebrating with them at iftar. Malaysians can be a pretty thoughtful bunch!
Recently, a netizen posted her apology for recording a live Instagram video of her and some friends unknowingly making pancakes during Ramadan.
Our stupid asses decided to do an ig live while making pancakes during puasa, sincerest apologies 🙁 pic.twitter.com/mkXh6qmFEa

“Our stupid *sses decided to do an IG live while making pancakes during puasa, sincerest apologies.”
The viral video shows her with two of her friends discussing pancake recipes before someone pointed out in the comments that it was the puasa month.
They then panicked and shut the stream immediately for fear of offending someone.
But netizens found it funny instead
One netizen tweeted, “You guys are super cute. It’s OK to go live on your Instagram. It’s not a problem. Only the weak would be tempted after watching someone make pancakes.”
Another netizen recalled his past experience seeing his Chinese classmate sneaking around to eat whilst others were fasting.
“I remembered back during Form 6, my Chinese classmates would eat sorok-sorok because the Muslims were fasting. I told them it is okay to eat in front of me.”
Another insisted that he did not mind it at all, and the fact that the girls realised it was the fasting month, was good enough.
“Please share the recipe, yeah?”
The fact that Malaysians can tolerate and even embrace each other’s customs show just how far we have progressed as a community.
To all our non-Muslim friends, we want to take this opportunity to thank you for your tolerance and understanding.
Happy Ramadan!
