Some things may be trivial but can mean a lot to some people. In this case, we’re talking about a birthday cake that did not meet minimum expectations.
In a viral FB post by Kamol Praksit in the group Pendang, she revealed how the bakery workers did not meet her simple request at a gas station in Sabah. All Kamol wanted on the cake was “Happy Birthday Yuri Sumandak Sabah 16/12/23.”
However, the word “Happy Birthday” was removed since there was a stand on the cake for the words.
Kamol said it was a last-minute decision to surprise her colleague with the birthday cake, and the location was the easiest she could find. While waiting for the cake, Kamol overheard the workers’ conversations about the cake.
“How do I write it? I don’t know how to write!”
Another staff told the person to write it slowly, as long as the cake was not messed up.
When the cake was packed, Kamol immediately returned to the office without checking on the cake. When the cake was unboxed, Kamol was not happy to see the outcome on the cake.
“The font was ‘ghoulish’. So unprofessional and disappointing.”
“You could’ve at least told me”
Kamol then said she wouldn’t mind if the workers were honest about their difficulties and would be happy to make their lives easier.
“You could’ve at least told me if the sentence was too long. But then again, what do I expect from people who don’t take things seriously?”
Instead of what she originally wanted, Kamol got “Yuri 16.12 Suman” on the cake, which was meant to surprise her colleague.
Kamol also stated at the end of her post that there is no need to criticise the workers as she only intended to rant about her disappointment.
We can’t imagine if we were to have our birthday cakes ruined like this. What would you do if you found yourself in such a situation?
