A foreign woman gambles away RM10,000 in Genting, files a fake police report to avoid being scolded by boyfriend
According to a press release by the Bentong District Police, Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar revealed that the woman arrived at the Bentong District Police Headquarters (IPD) to file the false report on Tuesday (6 January) at approximately 10:30 PM.
“Acting on the report received, the Bentong IPD Criminal Investigation Division launched an investigation. However, after reviewing the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, it was revealed that the robbery did not occur as reported. Further investigations found that the woman actually suffered a loss of RM10,000 after gambling at a casino in the area,” he stated.
He added that the woman filed the false report to avoid being scolded by her boyfriend for losing the money.
False reports are no joke
Upon determining that the woman had filed a false report, the Bentong IPD criminal investigation officer filed a counter-report against the woman.
This case is now being investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code for providing false information with the intent to cause a public servant to use lawful authority to cause harm to another party.
“If convicted, the suspect can be sentenced to up to 6 months in prison or a maximum fine of RM2,000 or both,” Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar added.
The woman is also being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 for failing to produce a valid passport to enter and reside in Malaysia, which carries a fine of not more than RM10,000 or imprisonment of not more than 5 years or both.
Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar has since advised the public to provide accurate information when making reports to the police, as false reports are considered a serious offence.
