A foreign man was accused of allegedly attempting to rape a woman at Karpal Singh Drive, George Town, Penang, leading to a chaotic confrontation by the general public.

Netizen Paulina Sonet took to her Facebook page to share videos of the incident, where the foreign man could be seen being held inside a convenience store.

He was later brought outside to the sidewalk where he knelt to the ground while an angry woman confronted him and repeatedly smacked him across the head with a sandal.

Paulina Sonet wrote, “This Chinese man tried to rape a Chinese woman in a car and tore her underwear at Karpal Singh Drive.”

PDRM says it was a misunderstanding.

According to a report by Sinar Harian, the police have confirmed that the dispute, involving 2 foreign tourists at Karpal Singh Drive, has been resolved amicably without further action.

Timur Laut District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad, shared that his party received a report on the incident from a foreign woman claiming that there had been an argument between her and a male friend.

“It is understood that the incident was successfully resolved by their friends before both individuals were present at the Timur Laut District Police Headquarters for further action. The results of an investigation found that this case was classified as no further action after the male friend apologised to the complainant,” he shared.

The woman also withdrew her report and forgave her friend, not wanting to pursue the case.

“In this regard, the police advise the public not to speculate or spread false news regarding the incident, which could cause concern among the public, including foreign tourists,” he added.
