A woman in China is now reminding the general public to be wary of firecrackers and to always check the packaging before putting items in your mouth.
According to a report by 快科技, a woman, Ms. Wu, from Chengdu, China, accidentally ate a firecracker, thinking it was candy. The firecracker exploded in her mouth, causing her minor injuries.

This was apparently due to the packaging of the firecracker she ate being very similar to the taro candies she often enjoyed as a child.
This incident took place when Ms. Wu’s brother returned home with firecrackers and snacks.
Considering that the living room lights were turned off while Ms. Wu was watching TV at night, she ended up inserting a firecracker in her mouth without identifying it first.

When the firecracker went off, she allegedly only felt numbness in her mouth, which was then accompanied by the strong smell of gunpowder.
While she did sustain injuries in her mouth, they were thankfully minor and did not significantly impact her day-to-day tasks like eating or brushing her teeth.

However, she has since been left with lingering fears and believes the packaging of the firecracker had misled her to assume it was candy.
Hence, always check the packaging of an item before putting its contents in your mouth!
