The popular city of Pattaya, Thailand, allegedly heard echoes of laughter on February 13 (Thursday), following a fire at a cannabis cultivation centre there.

The fire had caused thick clouds of cannabis smoke to consume the areas around the centre, leaving residents and tourists in the vicinity of the blaze feeling dizzy, experiencing headaches, having swollen eyes and even finding themselves in giggling fits.

According to a report by Thaiger, the Thailand Land Disaster Relief Radio Centre rushed to the scene after being informed of the fire, which happened on the 2nd floor of a 4-storey residential building on Soi Welcome Jomtien, where the cannabis plants were being grown.

Firefighters spent over 30 minutes to put out the fire and eventually got it under control. Thankfully, no one was injured.

The 40-year-old caretaker of the premises confirmed that the cannabis grown at the cultivation centre was legal, and shared that a short-circuited electrical panel most likely started the fire.

The damages have since been estimated at 200,000 baht (RM26,270.22).
