A family of nine was evicted from their rented home in Taman Perling during the fourth day of Raya. For the past nine days, they had to live in their car.
“My rent was RM300 a month and I was behind in my payment for seven months. The landlord gave us extensions but I could not afford to pay the outstanding amount as I was previously jobless since last year.” Sani said.
Mohd Sani Bachok is a disabled person that owns a disabled (OKU) card. However, he had never sought aid from the Welfare Department.
Sani had recently found work as a gardener, and his wife is currently employed as a cleaner. With 7 children aged between 18 months and 10 years, both parents had to take turns working, so that one of them can be home to take care of their small children.

Sani describes how three of their children could not attend school for the past week, as the family has been living from one rest stop to another.
“I don’t expect sympathy from people. I can’t do much to help my family especially my children who are always asking for food. Sometimes they don’t eat for hours.” he said.
The family garnered attention from a non-governmental group, We Love Charity (WLC) JB after someone shared their story on Facebook. WLC charity group project coordinator Anwar Miswan said the group managed to locate a temporary shelter home, and will help them to the best of their ability.
“We will assist them in managing the process of application of the Projek Perumahan Rakyat Termiskin (PPRT) they applied for last year.” Anwar said.
