Food quality matters, aside from the price and the portion. Unfortunately, some food vendors find it hard to keep some food real, which sabotages the trust between them and the paying customers.
Just last night (February 24), the Facebook page Menarik Kelate Kito shared a status from another FB user, Fatimah Mulyati, who was baffled about the fake doughnuts she bought for her kids. Authentic doughnuts are made with leavened fried dough and Fatimah was not happy to find out the vendor substituted the bread with burger buns, with a hole poked in the middle to resemble a doughnut.
“I’m selling chocolate-dipped bread, not doughnuts.”
Fatimah bought a colourful strawberry-flavoured doughnut for her kid from the vendor at a food expo in Bachok, Kelantan. A few bites later, she noticed it was a fake doughnut with a burger bun!
Feeling shocked, Fatimah went back to the vendor just to check with her, to which the vendor told her,
“I’m selling chocolate-dipped bread, not doughnuts.”
Fatimah, who was a little irritated by the response told the vendor to just state what she was selling, and be honest to the paying customers.
“This is not a doughnut. This is just a bread dipped in chocolate, and you charge me RM3 for this. But since I’ve bought it, it’s alright. Just keep in mind, this is not a doughnut.” Fatimah reminded the vendor.
According to Fatimah, she saw the confused vendor asking another staff if that was bread, which baffled Fatimah even more.
“Are you serious? Do you not know what you’re selling?”
In her post, Fatimah also lamented some vendors who are not honest in running their businesses and reminded them NOT to cheat the customers like this.
“I was so frustrated. I felt sorry to see my kid eating a fake doughnut.”
Have you ever encountered such a situation when purchasing food which you expect to be authentic?
