Da’i Syed has been granted temporary release, subject to several conditions
In a recent update reported by Harian Metro, Da’i Syed (the applicant) has been temporarily released after the Court of Appeal allowed a stay of execution of his prison sentence while his appeal is being heard.
The decision was made by a three-member panel led by Datuk Azmi Ariffin, alongside Datuk Hayatul Akmal Abdul Aziz and Datuk Meor Hashimi Abdul Hamid.
Judge Azmi said one of the key reasons for the ruling was that the applicant had never failed to attend any court proceedings.
“Secondly, we found no evidence in the affidavits showing that the applicant had ever absconded or failed to attend proceedings at either level. Taking into account other points raised by the defence, this is also his first offence, and that should be given proper consideration,” he said.

The bail will be revoked if any of these conditions are breached
Judge Azmi also set several conditions for Da’i Syed’s release, including bail of RM40,000 with two sureties who do not have to be family members, as well as the requirement that his international passport must remain surrendered to the court.
Additionally, the applicant is required to report to the Section 6 Police Station in Shah Alam between the 1st and 5th of every month starting from March 2026, until his appeal at the Court of Appeal is decided.

“After hearing submissions from both parties and reviewing the written grounds and arguments, we find that there are special circumstances that justify releasing the applicant on bail pending the outcome of his appeal,” Judge Azmi said.
He added that if any of the conditions are breached, the bail granted by the Court of Appeal will be revoked.
