Accidents can happen anywhere at any time, even when you’re just enjoying your meal after a long day. Former badminton player, Tan Boon Heong nearly got into serious trouble, all thanks to a fish bone from his dinner.

In his FB post last night (October 17), Boon Heong dubbed the incident “Unlucky Tuesday”, and explained what exactly happened.

He was enjoying an affordable steamed fish meal which cost him only RM34, but little did he know the “aftermath” was going to cost him a lot more than that.

Fish bones can be “sneaky and hidden” if you don’t look closely, and Boon Heong accidentally swallowed one. That was when he knew he needed medical attention, and he did not waste any time getting it.

Swallowing fish bones can be lethal if you leave it in your throat, even if you feel nothing.

Boon Heong immediately visited 1 of the hospitals in Klang Valley to get medical attention to remove the fish bone and fortunately, Boon Heong escaped any severe consequences but not the hefty medical bill.

“RM1453.60 + RM45 = hancur (financially destroyed). If you’re rushing, avoid eating fish. If you want to eat fish, keep calm,” Boon Heong said in his FB post.

Despite the 4-figure medical bill, Boon Heong managed to claim from his insurance agent, who was at the scene to handle the matter for him. Those who have ALMOST choked on fish bones will definitely understand the pain and fear of having the tiny but sharp bone lingering by the walls of your throat.

Well, it looks like Boon Heong learnt his lesson and it didn’t take the former badminton player long to eat the seafood again. In a recent post this noon (October 18), Boon Heong shared another picture of him enjoying a bowl of fish noodle soup.

“Keep eating fish. Learned from mistake. Have a good Wednesday, everyone!”

Boon Heong’s experience can also serve as a reminder to anyone who feasts on fish without properly discarding the bone. Take it easy, chill. The fish is dead and they’re not swimming away from your plate, guys!
