Ever wanted to try out skiing but lacked the money to book yourself a trip? Well, it looks like you won’t have to fly halfway across the world anymore to give it a shot!
Sim Leisure Group is bringing the world’s first dry ski slope to Malaysia in the equatorial region in conjunction with their launch of an ESCAPE theme park in the popular local travel destination-Cameron Highlands!
Being stuck indoors in this heatwave during the pandemic, many Malaysians long for the cold breeze of the Malaysian hilltop and a gorgeous view of the tea plantation. And now, you can finally look forward to that by booking a family-friendly holiday at ESCAPE Cameron Highlands after the pandemic. After their success in building ESCAPE experiences in both Penang and Petaling Jaya, Sim Leisure Group decided to take things to the next level (literally) with their third installation of the ESCAPE Theme park in Ringlet, Cameron Highland together with Hektar Muda Sdn. Bhd.
This notable Malaysian-born theme park designer is the developer of 300 major theme parks worldwide!
World’s first dry ski slope
In a media briefing held on 2 August, Mr Sim Choo Kheng said this is a plan that endorses quality time with loved ones away from the city and reconnects with nature. Moreover, he is determined to change Cameron Highlands into a potential world-class tourist destination with the development of the world’s first dry ski slope in the equatorial region. He emphasised that,
“This is a true Malaysia Boleh project from a Malaysian to Malaysians!”
Eco-friendly, nature-based theme park
In addition to that, he is also committed to raising the bar of this tourist destination by cultivating sustainability and relying on renewable energy to operate it, making it an eco-friendly theme park.
In the virtual signing ceremony officiated by YB Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, between Sim Leisure Group and Hektar Muda Sdn Bhd that aims to build a nature-based adventure park in the vicinity of Cameron Highlands.
Dato’ Jimmy Doh of Hektar Muda Sdn Bhd believes that the natural beauty of Cameron Highlands will help drive up eco-tourism efforts as well. Despite the challenges they faced during the pandemic, they are confident that they would be able to revitalize Cameron Highlands as a tourism hub.
YB Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri, congratulated Sim for making a mark all over the world.
“ESCAPE Cameron Highlands will literally and figuratively be a breath of fresh air, as far as the tourism industry is concerned. This novel destination stands to offer something truly unique: reconnecting us with nature.”
Expected to open in 2023!
Phase 1 of the theme park is estimated to open to the public in early 2023 with five different European themed villages at varying elevations namely the Iberian village at the bottom of the theme park, followed by the British village, the Balkan village, and the Nordic village moving up with Alpine village at the peak. The main attraction in this theme park is going to be the dry ski slope that is 1.2km long.
Cameron Highlands has always been a Malaysian favourite tourist spot as people love the chilly weather and scenic atmosphere. This theme park has a temperate climate and unique geography which aims to bring visitors from the European continent to Malaysia and develop the park as an ASEAN tourism hub. As for future plans, Sim leisure Group aims to expand their ESCAPE revenue to other states especially in Kuala Lumpur.
Looking forward to ESCAPE after the pandemic!
