EMCO Areas & MySejahtera, Here’s Everything You Missed From The Defence Minister’s Live Today

Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, addressed the nation with a few important updates concerning the RMCO situation in our country during a live press conference held today (3rd August). If you couldn’t catch everything, don’t worry. Here’s a quick summary of everything that you need to know!

1. Students from B40 income groups are exempted from paying for mandatory quarantine

After much discussion with governing authorities, Dato Seri Ismail Sabri announced that only students who came from families who could afford to pay for the costs for quarantine would be subjected to these fees.

2. Certain areas in Kedah will be placed under EMCO starting 3rd August 

The four areas that will be affected are:

  • 1km radius from Nasi Kandar Saleh, Napoh (Mukim Hosba, Kubang Pasu)
  • Kampung Pida 1, Megat Dewa (Mukim Ah, Kubang Pasu)
  • Kampung Bendang Dalam, Bukit Binjal, Kubang Pasu
  • Kampung Ulu, Padang Sanai, Padang Terap

The EMCO is set for a duration from 3rd August until 30th August. These places will follow already set SOPs with the addition of roadblocks at every entrance-exit passageways while certain main roads will be closed off completely.

3. 7,000 screening tests will be conducted on residents staying in EMCO Kedah areas 

An estimate of about 7,000 residents staying in the EMCO Kedah areas will be screened and swab-tested to ensure early detection of Covid-19 to avoid the occurrence of possible developing clusters.

4. Citizens are required to wear face masks in public places except in these circumstances

On 1st August, it was made mandatory for all citizens to wear face masks in public transportation and crowded public places in which physical distancing could not be avoided. This includes public buses, MRT, LRT, KTM, wet markets, night markets, cinemas and tourist attractions.

However, it is not required when an individual is exercising, driving alone, or in his or her house. Masks also do not need to be worn by children aged two years and below.

5. Every premise is required to use MySejahtera

Every public premise including restaurants, stores, and businesses are required to register customers under the MySejahtera application.

Businesses in small towns or rural areas where the internet connection is bad can be excluded and manual check-ins can be accepted.
