It all started on the night of 1 July (for Malaysians at least) when Twitter users kept seeing the phrase “cannot retrieve tweets at this moment.”
Users were unable to see any new tweets and many believe that Twitter was down. However, Elon Musk has since tweeted to talk about the situation and apparently, they are enforcing temporary limits to how many tweets a user can read in a day.
“To address extreme levels of data scraping & system manipulation, we’ve applied temporary limits.”
At first, verified accounts (meaning those who pay for Twitter Blue) are limited to reading 6000 posts a day while unverified accounts can read up to 600 posts/day and new unverified accounts to 300/day.
Now to 10k, 1k & 0.5k

Many users then complained and it seems that the Twitter team has upped the limit to 10k per day for verified accounts, 1k for unverified accounts and 0.5k for new unverified accounts.
It is unknown what brought about this sudden change but throughout the whole time, Elon Musk has made fun of those who are complaining about the rate limit.
“Rate limited due to reading all the posts about rate limits.”
“Oh the irony of hitting view limits due to complaining about view limits.”

Due to this sudden change, Elon Musk, rate limit and RIP Twitter has started trending on the platform.
There are also some who attribute this to Twitter which is allegedly not paying their Google bills for cloud-based services with the expiry date being 30 June, deduced Forbes.
Well, this certainly seems like a good time for Mark Zuckerberg to roll out his Twitter-like app, Threads.
