It’s the Raya season, but not everyone is away from work. DBKL recently raided and cracked down on multiple unlicensed business vendors in the city, all of which were run by foreigners.

In a Facebook post, DBKL conducted an operation on the first day of Raya on Monday (March 31), and 9 stalls around KL city, namely Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Silang, and Jalan Khoo Teok Ee were forced to close.

Another raid was carried out today

DBKL’s operation did not end there. Just today (April 2), the City Hall revealed that another 11 unlicensed foreign traders were caught running their stalls without valid documents. This time, DBKL enforcers paid a visit to more areas near KLCC, including,

  • Jalan Leboh Pudu
  • Jalan Tun Tan Siew Sin
  • Jalan P. Ramlee
  • Jalan Petaling
  • Masjid Jamek
  • Pavilion Bukit Bintang

The unlicensed traders were selling food, beverages, and clothes. All goods were sent to DBKL’s confiscation storeroom in Cheras for documentation purposes. This action is taken under the provisions of the Street Hawker Licensing By-Laws (WPKL) 2016.

The Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) also participated in the operations.
In its post, DBKL also reminded the public to reach out to the authorities if illegal business activities are spotted around town, and said that they will continue to monitor the hospots in KL to make sure all rules are followed.
DBKL recently went viral due to a physical dispute with a balloon trader. All officers involved have been suspended from duties as the investigation is ongoing. The balloon trader, on the other hand, is receiving treatment in the hospital for injury and has been receiving legal and financial aid, including from UMNO Youth Chief Dr Akmal Saleh.
