Living in a community full of neighbours can sometimes prove difficult especially when certain areas are shared.
But even if you don’t necessarily agree with what your neighbour is doing, it is never a reasonable excuse to cause a death.
According to Harian Metro, an elderly man in Kelantan recently passed away due to a heart attack after he was attacked by his neighbour using a stick.
Acting Kelantan Police Chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said that initial investigations found that the fight was due to a misunderstanding between the victim and the suspect.
Zaki said that the suspect, in his mid-60s, admitted to hitting the victim with a stick and that the incident was due to dissatisfaction because the victim had planted a tree on the road, making it difficult for the suspect’s vehicle to pass through the road.
“The suspect hit the victim with a stick and the victim fled back to his house before he was found lying unconscious in the kitchen of his house.”
“Examinations on the victim’s body found that the back of his head was swollen and that there were scratch marks on his arms. The assistant medical officer of Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital (HRPZ II) confirmed that the victim had died,” he added.
Zaki explained that the police have arrested the suspect and confiscated the stick which was believed to have been used to hit the victim.
“The urine test on the suspect was found to be negative for drugs and a remand application will be applied tomorrow for further investigation,” he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Meanwhile, the wife of the victim named See Toh Yuat Shya said that when the incident happened, she was preparing breakfast.
She said that she heard the neighbour’s voice and when she stepped out of the kitchen door, she was shocked to find her late husband, Hor Keng Wah on the floor.
“My late husband was a quiet man and the incident which happened this morning was really shocking… I don’t even know the cause behind why my husband was beaten.”
“The man who beat my late husband does not live around here, he lives elsewhere and often comes to the neighbour’s house to help clean it up,” she said.
She added that just last night, they were having a steamboat dinner as a family and that her late husband was completely fine.
“However, the thing that makes me even more upset is that my late husband was meant to go to Sungai Petani in Kedah on 18 June to send our youngest child to get married at the groom’s house,” she stated.
Our condolences to the wife and family of the victim. May he get the justice he deserves.
