An elderly woman suffered burns on her shoulders and face after risking her life and getting caught in a fire while trying to save her beloved disabled cat in an incident in Tumpat, Kelantan.

While the 70-year-old woman survived the ordeal, unfortunately, her cat, named ‘Dong’, didn’t, as it was found in a charred state.

According to a report by Sinar Harian, the woman’s daughter, 40-year-old Sonita Mat Ariffin, shared that, apart from losing the cat that had been in the family for about 10 years, the family was also left with nothing as their house was destroyed in the fire.

Community members saved the elderly woman

She went on to explain that her mother had to be pulled out to safety by community members after she had entered the house on fire to save their pet cat that was in the kitchen area.

Both the elderly woman and another family member, who also suffered burns on his palms and feet from the fire, were taken to the Tumpat Hospital for treatment, and the family is now temporarily staying with relatives and a neighbour.
