An elderly couple in Kuala Muda, Kedah, have opened up about the hardship they are facing after being forced to lodge a police report against their own grandson due to his drug addiction.
The grandfather made the heart-wrenching decision to involve the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and have his grandson detained. He also requested that the authorities charge his grandson under Section 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1953, which increases penalties for those with prior admissions or convictions.

Malaysian grandparents were heartbroken after having to report their grandson for drug abuse
The National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) Kuala Muda District recently visited a village in the district, where they met an elderly couple who shared how heartbroken they were over having to report their own grandson.
“During our visit to the village, we met a grandfather and grandmother who spoke about the hardships they have been facing. Their grandson, in his early 30s, refuses to listen to advice and has been struggling with continuous drug abuse.
“The grandfather went to the police station to file a report to have his grandson detained. He had planned everything carefully, but said the front door was not properly secured. Fortunately, his grandson was still in the room as he would have escaped and been difficult to apprehend,” AADK Kuala Muda District shared on its Facebook page.

“His decision wasn’t to abandon his grandson”
The grandfather said that keeping his grandson in detention a little longer might be the best course of action, hoping it would help him turn his life around.
He also reflected on how things had gone so wrong for his grandson, despite all the love and care they had given him over the years.
“You could see tears welling up in his eyes as he tried to hold them back. Who wouldn’t be emotional after raising a grandson since he was young? But his decision wasn’t to abandon his grandson.
“People who haven’t experienced it themselves or within their family often find it easy to judge. This seems simple, but when it actually happens, if possible, you’d report it and have the authorities come take action. That’s the reality,” AADK Kuala Muda District stated.
