A 64-year-old woman from Thailand has come up with desperate measures in an attempt to help her 42-year-old son overcome his ongoing addiction issues.

Oddity Central reported how the mom, referred to as Madam A, decided to take extraordinary measures to install iron bars resembling a prison cell in their home in Buriram Province, Thailand.

“My son became increasingly violent”

It was also reported that one of the reasons behind Madam A’s decision was to protect herself and her neighbours from her son’s violent behaviour.

After 20 years of living in constant fear of her drug-addicted son, she decided to hire a contractor to build a prison-like cell inside her house to keep him confined.

She also told the police that she had tried everything over the years to help her son beat his addiction to drugs.

She explained how she made multiple attempts to get her son help and sent him to 10 rehab centres across the country, but sadly, none of them worked.

He also has a gambling addiction

To make things worse, Madam A’s son was not only battling a drug addiction but he was also hooked on gambling.

She went on to explain how she’s been living alone with her son since her husband passed away, which was partly due to the depression and stress caused by their son’s addiction problems.

“The room with iron bars has everything he needs, like a bed, bathroom, and Wi-Fi. It’s also set up so I can send him food and drinks. I even put in a CCTV system to keep an eye on him 24/7,” she said.

Madam A could be facing charges

Madam A hoped these measures would help protect both herself and her neighbours from her son’s aggressive behaviour.

While it remains unclear how the police found out about the makeshift prison cell, authorities grew concerned when they visited her home.

The police have since ordered her to dismantle the cell but promised to find a better solution for her situation.

However, a spokesperson mentioned that Madam A could allegedly face charges for violating human rights and unlawful detention.
