According to Malaysia’s Senior Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin, a bullying complaints portal will be prepared by the Ministry of Education by next week to improve efforts in tackling bullying cases in school.

With the portal, he said that the parents and teachers can lodge reports of school bullying via the portal itself, as well as by phone or email, and these methods could deal with emergencies and the informer’s confidentiality, as reported by BERNAMA.

Radzi also added that the ministry is committed to minimising bullying cases in schools using holistic measures like establishing a special committee, and launching the Sekolahku Sejahtera program along with the police and home ministry to create a safer school environment.

He said that the ministry can monitor as much as it can, but if the student’s mind is clouded, it will lead to bullying cases. Thus the current concept will put emphasis on the student’s character to guide them into making rational decisions. He also added that Malaysians focus too much on examinations, and did not prioritise students’ development all in all.

Hopefully with the introduction of the bully complaints portal, the bullying issues in school and unfortunate events that derive from it will be minimised.
