We’re about to tell you about THE TOP GUN OF BURGERS right here in Malaysia, so hold on to your seats!
An RM108 A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Beef Burger with 200 grammes of mouthwatering beef patties, bread, and sauces, with halal certification, now that’s a change!
This burger costs just RM108 for 200 grammes, compared to the market price of RM200 for 100 grammes of Miyazaki Wagyu beef.
What about those delectable premium burgers from other brands that you have been enjoying? They cost between RM60 and RM70 per burger and are “only” produced of Australian-bred beef or Australian Wagyu cattle. This is NOT YOUR ORDINARY AUSTRALIAN WAGYU – this is Miyazaki A5 Wagyu from Japan!
Furthermore, are you a burger lover who enjoys visiting all the popular burger restaurants in Malaysia but occasionally longs to eat an actual, genuine American burger?
Well then, you must visit Pasadena Burger PRONTO if you enjoy real, authentic American burgers like those from Five Guys, Shake Shack, and In & Out!
Conceptualised as a hybrid burger joint and cafe concept at Plaza Mont Kiara, the founder’s taste for a true Californian cheeseburger with a juicy patty on a lightly toasted yet fluffy bread was inspired by the city of Pasadena, California – the birthplace of the cheeseburger. He loved it so much that it inspired him to obtain the formula and deliver this renowned flavour to Malaysia… It was Love at First Bite!
Pasadena Burger has achieved many firsts in the Malaysian F&B industry, such as being the first to serve a dipping cheeseburger and introducing a first-of-its-kind photogenically packaged DIY burger kit!
The cheeseburger, chicken burger, and dipping burger are among their best-selling dishes. The A5 Miyazaki Beef Wagyu Cheese Burger is a new addition to the menu, and today we’ll be focusing on that.
The Majestic Burger aka the Pasadena Miyazaki A5 Wagyu Cheese Burger
The immense wagyu beef aroma filled the air as we greedily unwrapped the burger, luring our taste buds to begin indulging in it. This aroma was accompanied by generous helpings of melted cheese, onions, and lightly toasted buns.
Juices were dripping from the big boi as we scooped it up, so we could tell it was a juicy burger. To consume it, they also give you plastic gloves, which was very welcome!
With ingredients imported directly from the US, the flour of the bun and beef are all from Japan.
And the meat? Oh my, it was very soft and very tender! The difference between finely cooked meat and average meat can be recognized by how easily it melts and crumbles in your mouth when you take a mouthful.
Additionally, you could tell that actual, 100% meat was used rather than just your standard beef patty with bread crumbs. With 200 grammes of Miyazaki beef, the burger is of GREAT PORTION.
Since she had a small mouth, our female reviewer remarked that she couldn’t even put the burger in it!
The bun is fresh and lightly toasted, and the vegetables are really crisp and fresh.
The wagyu was cooked to medium-rare, and it has a very rich, aromatic flavour. Once we started eating, we COULD NOT STOP.
The founder, Cornelius Lu (commonly known as GK), recalls how he would miss the taste of the burger after a few days and said that it would happen with us as well. True to his prophecy, we had such a massive burger craving for the A5 Miyazaki burger three days after the dinner!
The Cheeseburger and Chicken Burger
We moved on to Pasadena’s other outstanding options, their best-selling Cheeseburger and Chicken Burger, after devouring the A5 Miyazaki Beef Wagyu Cheese Burger (that’s a mouthful, both metaphorically and literally)!
Even if you may find cheeseburgers everywhere, the Miyazaki was unique, and this Cheeseburger is on par with Malaysia’s best elsewhere.
Crispy, buttery, with a hint of spice, it was a very spicy, very fresh chicken burger with the SoCal recipe. Not oily, yet tender. The batter is incredibly thin. Hints of paprika were also detected.
As we did not try the dipping burger, just an FYI, there are 3 different kinds of cheese that you can dip the burger with — habanero, cajun, and honey cheese.
As the writer had ordered the strawberry milkshake (like a true American would), GK explains that it is made from Swiss-made ice cream milk and true enough it was milky and creamy – on par with the strawberry milkshake this writer recently had at Five Guys (albeit without the peanut butter).
Love At First Bite
Founder Cornelius Lu (GK), dressed in a casual shirt and faded jeans reminiscent of the ’60s and ’70s, first opened up Pasadena Burger only for online delivery during the MCO in 2020 and had received rave reviews from The Star, Prestige, Utusan, Yahoo News, The Sun and many other media outlets.
‘’I used to live in Pasadena during my school time and discovered much good food over there at Old Town Pasadena …nevertheless the cheeseburger was invented there.”
We could tell GK’s passion for burgers went beyond ours – he compared notes with other burger joints and consistently asked us what else could be improved on the three burgers that we had.
“Although personally, the best burger I’ve ever had is in the US at ‘In And Out,’ he says.
He continued:
“I was set on my mission to bring my love of authentic Californian burgers to Asia, and the burgers we have here are what the Americans are having in the States’.
Pasadena Burger is the only local burger establishment that has been endorsed by the American Association Malaysia, as the most authentic purveyor of American burgers in Malaysia. This is quite an endorsement for the brand!
“They gave glowing reviews on the great taste of their comfort food and said that ‘it felt like he was brought back to the US, and described it as one of the most authentic and native US burgers he has ever had.”
“Everyone says it’s authentic as though the chicken burgers were from Southern California itself,” GK says.
“Our mission is to make our delectable burgers easily accessible to the public via online channels, in addition to dine-in options at our restaurant,” GK said.
While you are there, do take time to take selfies with the biggest burger model in Malaysia (located right in front of the entrance), and the pleasant decor evocative of a California burger joint.
