The Turun Anwar rally proceeded and concluded smoothly yesterday (July 26), but Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming criticised litterbugs for tarnishing the event’s cleanliness.

In a series of social media posts on X, Kor Ming claimed that participants of the Perikatan Nasional-led rally littered the area, causing difficulties for solid waste management and cleaning workers, who had to work late into the night to clean up the mess.

In his post, Kor Ming sternly reminded those who littered to maintain hygiene and avoid bringing shame to Malaysia.

“As the minister overseeing SWCorp, I am disappointed by PN’s behaviour and their indiscriminate littering.”

He added, “The Madani government upholds democracy and does not oppose peaceful assemblies, but please, maintain cleanliness. Don’t embarrass the country, understand?”

In another post, Kor Ming described the littering as shameful and claimed that the protestors at the Turun Anwar rally were responsible for the mess.

“Let the facts speak for themselves. A large amount of garbage was discarded by the opposition group who participated in the rally. SWCorp is working tirelessly to clean up the garbage and filth left behind.”

Kor Ming also reminded Malaysians that there is no compromise when it comes to maintaining hygiene.

According to PDRM, the rally was attended by 18,000 protestors, an increase from their initial estimate. PAS, however, claimed that over 500,000 protestors turned up for the event.

Following the rally’s conclusion, Anwar suggested that the protestors return to Kuala Lumpur for Visit Malaysia 2026 to help boost the country’s tourism.
