T’was an amazing show, dear Malaysian athletes! We’re not the only ones who think so. Legendary Malaysian badminton player, Dato Lee Chong Wei feels the same way!
In an Instagram post by @leechongweiofficial today (August 12), Lee penned a gratitude post for all the Malaysian athletes who had the opportunity to perform in the Paris Olympics 2024.
“Thank you, champions! You’ve brought all Malaysians together with your amazing performances. Whether you are Type-C, Type-Lightning, or even One-by-One(s), everyone will activate their ‘Saya Anak Malaysia’ mode and gather at mamaks to cheer on the squad.”
With the next Olympics 4 years away and set to take place in Los Angeles, USA, Chong Wei urged those who will be performing in 2028 to start their preparation immediately.
“Athletes, coaches, use the experiences in Paris to improve and go for the Gold medal in 2028!”
“Don’t be keyboard warriors”
With the online attack directed towards Rayan Helal following Azizulhasni’s disqualification from the Keirin event, Lee also had a stern reminder for all the netizens.
Lee reminded all Malaysians to not be keyboard warriors and if they must say something, leave constructive criticisms, and be wary of their words.
“Don’t make deragatory remarks under the pretense of an anonymous profile with the image of a pretty woman. Your words can break the people apart and lower the confidence of the athletes.”
Lee ended his post by reminding the athletes that they can always try again.
“Four years later, we try again. And the hard work should begin immediately.”
To all our athletes, thank you for your contributions to the Malaysian sports arena, and welcome home. As for social media users, let’s show some support and avoid making negative remarks on social media about anyone at all, regardless of where they’re from.
