PDRM in Johor Bahru managed to stop a group of illegal riders who were trying to escape, but not in the way you possibly think.
In a viral dashcam footage shared on X by @borg_cyber, a few officers on the road were seen trying to stop the Mat Rempits at a traffic light junction. Some escaped but not until the “cavalry” arrived – 2 buses that blocked the riders from fleeing.
In an official police statement by PDRM, the operation, which was conducted over 2 days (August 25 to 26), was a collaboration between PDRM, JPJ, and the Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB). It took place at Jalan Skudai – Pantai Lido, Johor Bahru.
Throughout the operations, 286 individuals with 257 vehicles were inspected.
115 motorcycles were confiscated by PDRM for further investigation and a total of 153 summons were issued for multiple offences, including:
- Riding without valid licenses
- Illegal bike modification, including exhaust
- Other offences
Urine tests were also conducted and a 28-year-old was also arrested in the operation after testing positive for drugs, namely methamphetamine. The arrested rider will be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, in which the rider faces a jail term of 3 years, a fine of RM5,000, and under police supervision for 2 years.
Next stop, KL!
Social media users praised the authorities for conducting operations to take down the illegal riders, and many wish to see the same methods being used at racing hotspots in other states.
“This trap will work well in Selayang, Chow Kit, and Jalan Pudu. The police will get a lot of foreigners, who probably won’t pay the summons.”
“Good work, PDRM! You all should appreciate PDRM’s hard work in taking down these troublesome Mat Rempits. If we were to get hit by them, we could break our bones.”
“Kota Bharu, Kelantan needs this operation too.”
“Please do this at Tanjung Harapan in Port Klang. I was there yesterday and there were a lot of riders, and I don’t even know where they came from. I was afraid to drive there because I could’ve hit any of them.”
Where else do you think the police should set up roadblocks with surprising tactics to arrest the illegal riders?
