A disabled lady recently shared a heart-warming story between her and an Uber driver and it’s going viral on social media.
On February 20th, a netizen, Koo took an Uber ride to Jusco Tebrau City in Johor to attend to a personal matter. After hailing the service, a Proton Exora showed up with a friendly Malay driver in it, known as Nizam.
As they arrived at the mall, Nizam drove into the car park to drop her off so that she can easily get down the car. She was surprised that Nizam refused to accept her money when she tried to pay for the fare.
“He didn’t want to accept my money maybe because of my disability,” Koo said.
However, Nizam only accepted her money after Koo strongly insisted him to do so. She said to Nizam:
“Although I’m a disabled person, I’m still capable of taking care of myself and making ends meet through my hard-work.”
After listening to this, tears started to well up in Nizam’s eyes. He kept thanking Koo after receiving her money.
“Thank you, Nizam. I really appreciate the kindness and love you showed me,” Koo wrote.
After the story went viral, netizens applauded the kindness showed by Nizam while other netizens praised Koo for being self-reliant and didn’t rely on hand-outs.
“Abang Nizam, you are such a kind man. God bless you!,” said a netizen.
“Besides praising his kindness, I also want to praise you (Koo) for not using your disability to exploit others’ kindness. The world would be a better place if there’s more people like you,” commented another netizen.
This heart-warming story has certainly taught us that a little kindness can go a long way, and being disabled is not an excuse to give up on ourselves.
