When news of the MRT’s opening last year came to light, many Malaysians in the Klang Valley were excited over the fact that there would be a Bandar Utama station, making the popular shopping mall, 1 Utama more accessible.
Although the station definitely made the beloved mall more accessible, many commuters had to take shuttle buses to get there since it wasn’t directly linked to 1 Utama.
However, commuters can finally rejoice because there’s now a pedestrian link that directly connects the MRT station and the shopping mall that just opened yesterday (1st February)! Woohoo!
According to the Malay Mail Online, the 35-metre bridge connects Bandar Utama station’s Entrance B to One World Hotel, near the Zuan Yuan Chinese Restaurant and the Ground Floor of the shopping mall.
MRT Corp strategic communications and stakeholder relations director Datuk Najmuddin Abdullah reportedly said in a statement,
“With the link, it will be easier for shoppers to get to Bandar Utama City Centre seamlessly. At the same time, this will encourage more people to use the MRT. This is certainly a win-win situation for all parties involved and the public.”
1 Utama doesn’t plan on just stopping here, though! According to the mall’s director, Datuk Teo Chiang Kok, more pedestrian links will reportedly be built between MRT station to 1 Utama E, a sports centre with indoor skydiving and a surf centre that was just launched last week. Wah!
So, if you’re working in the Bandar Utama area or want to hang out at 1 Utama at any time, travelling there just got a whole lot easier now!
