Most Malaysians are probably aware of the famous clothing brand Uniqlo, or at least own a few clothing pieces from the brand. Founded in Japan, this casual wear designer, manufacturer and retailer has expanded all over the globe, with many embracing its simple, earth tones and high-quality clothing products.
In a TikTok video posted by Uniqlo USA, the brand explains that the name Uniqlo is actually a typographical error. The company was called “Unique Clothing Warehouse” back then.

“We wanted to register the brand under ‘Uniclo’, but in 1988, the staff in-charged misread C for Q!” it says. The name stuck and the brand has been called Uniqlo ever since.
Even though the name is essentially a typo, many netizens commented that Uniqlo with a Q is more eye-catching, cooler, and suits the brand better. The lifestyle brand Typo also commented, “Sometimes typos are a good thing”.
What do you think about this? Which name do you like better?
