On June 8, DBKL shared a post on Facebook about how they fined 61 people in the heart of KL for jaywalking.

According to the post, DBKL mentioned that traffic wardens from the enforcement department launched an overpass operation near Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock, Kuala Lumpur, in the afternoon of 8 June.

After observing several hotspots, they found that many do not abide by the traffic rules, and most do not use the overpass when crossing main roads.

Through their operation this time, they fined a total of 61 people made up of locals and foreigners. All of them were given compounds immediately after their wrongdoing. Enforcement was done under the Road Transport Act 1987 and Road Traffic Rules 1959.

DBKL has said that this act of jaywalking might cause accidents, physical injuries and even death. They added that they would continue to take action and monitor known hotspots occasionally.

At the end of the post, they urged members of the public to contact them or give them information through this link if they have any complaints.

It’s certainly unsafe to cross main roads without using the overpass, but in our own experience, some of them can be quite inaccessible. Be it as it may, your safety should always be a top priority.
