New Year’s Eve is a time of reflection and celebration. Many take this time to break bad habits and make improvements in hopes that it will bring better progress in the new year.
We Malaysians, on the other hand, seem to have 1 bad habit that we refuse to let go of.
The Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL) took to their Facebook page to condemn and call out Malaysians for having a third-world mentality when it comes to littering, as Kuala Lumpur was left severely trashed on New Year’s Eve.
They wrote, “Still with a third world mentality. Today is the first day in which we are stepping into 2024. Last night, the year 2023 was left with a thousand memories. Every one of us has definitely set our own resolutions to be more successful in pursuing our dreams this year.”
“However, the beginning of Kuala Lumpur this year is tainted by the usual attitude of some of the city’s residents who still have outdated attitudes and mindsets. Throwing rubbish at will with the assumption of ‘whatever lah, DBKL will clean up later‘. It’s strange that we still want to compare Kuala Lumpur with cities in other countries in terms of beauty. Just look at how their people behave in terms of cleanliness.”
They went on to urge people not to leave their rubbish everywhere and to learn to manage their own trash.
“We’re not asking you to help clean up the place, just for starters, each one of us can manage our own trash, don’t throw it all over the place and if necessary, bring your own trash bag,” they added.
It honestly really isn’t hard to just keep our rubbish on our persons and look for a garbage bin to throw it away. We genuinely hope that Malaysians leave the littering habit behind in 2023.
