During the Lunar New Year, fireworks and firecrackers are often lit and throughout the years, we have learnt that the sound it emits can shock others especially when it is sudden.
However, the fumes that come out of it can also cause harm to those who are susceptible to asthma attacks.
According to Sin Chew Daily and Oriental Daily, the father of Malaysian artists Nick Chung and Stella Chung, passed away on February 17, 8 days after he suffered an asthma attack.
It is said that the 80-year-old Mr Chung loved watching firecrackers getting lit and on the eve of Lunar New Year, February 9, he was outside watching.
As there were a lot of fumes produced, he accidentally inhaled too much of it and it caused a severe asthma attack. At that time, he was having difficulty breathing, his complexion turned purple and was cold.
The family rushed him to the ER where medical professionals took care of him. However, he was in a coma and was relying on the equipment to keep him alive.
After being in a coma for 8 days, he passed away on the morning of February 17. Both his children expressed their sadness over losing their father.
“Thank you for all that you’ve done for me. I will remember it and will be eternally grateful. Hopefully, I will be your son again in another life. Please live well in the afterlife,” says Nick.
Stella says, “Dad has left us and there’s an emptiness in my heart. A kind dad, a smiling dad, a helpful dad who now exists in a different space than us. Let’s be father and daughter again in the next life. Dad, I miss you so much.”
This is such a tragic story. Condolences to Nick and Stella’s family and loved ones.
