The male suspect was charged with murder

M. Sri Darvien and his girlfriend D. Thineswary nodded to indicate they understood the charges when they were read before Magistrate Khairatul Animah Jelani.

No plea was recorded from either of them, as murder charges fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

According to the charge, Sri Darvien is accused of murdering Maniishapriet at a condominium unit along Persiaran Multimedia between 9:11 PM and 11:31 PM on June 23.

He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of 30 to 40 years, along with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction
