In the wee hours of Sunday morning, two private college students became the victims of a mugging case after they were dropped off by an irresponsible Uber driver.
According to NST, both victims who were 24 years old had just finished partying at a nightclub in the city at about 3.30am. So they booked an Uber ride through the ride-sharing app from Jalan Ampang to Cheras Perdana.
As they entered the Perodua Alza, the students claimed that the driver grabbed one of their smartphones and changed the drop-off point to Taman Murni Batu 9, which was not where they wanted to go.
After reaching the location, both students were dumped by the roadside. They were then immediately targeted by two robbers who pulled up on a motorcycle.
Thinking they were getting a free lift, both students were taken to a secluded spot in turns before they were brutally bashed with helmets, and then robbed.
Eventually, they made their way home but their smartphones, watch, car keys and cash were mugged. It was reported that one of the victims received six stitches on his lips while another received several stitches near his eyes as a result of the assault.
This incident came into light after one of the victims’ mother, Christine Juliana Danker, shared the horror experience on her Facebook. She also urged Uber riders to be aware of such potential danger.
An investigation paper has been opened and the police are in the midst of tracking down the individuals involved, Kajang police chief Assistant Commissioner Othman Nanyan said.
So to those who’d love to party hard sampai pagi, you might want to pay heed to this.
